Austin High athletics is once again moving the goalposts for high school sports in Texas. The Maroons golf program already practice 3 minutes from the high school at their nearby, Lions Municipal, but now the Maroons are entering a league of their own with the official opening of the Ben Crenshaw Golf Academy. Located directly inside the school on the first floor, this state-of-the-art facility provides our golfers with the professional-grade resources needed to dominate at the Texas 6A level. The room is now the new locker room slash training facility for all Austin High golfers.
The heart of the Academy features three custom-built hitting bays powered by Trackman technology, allowing our golfers to dial in their numbers with the same precision used on the PGA Tour. To round out the elite experience, the center of the room is anchored by a massive indoor putting green integrated with PuttView. This German-engineered system uses high-tech lasers to project the perfect line directly onto the turf, turning every practice session into a live, interactive masterclass in green reading. Whether our athletes are grinding through a rainy afternoon or fine-tuning their stroke for a District lead, the Crenshaw Academy provides a professional-grade edge that you simply won’t find at any other high school in the state.
The academy’s opening comes at a time of unprecedented momentum for Maroons golf. Under the leadership of Head Coaches Nick Lebo and Tommie Norris, our boys and girls programs have become a force in the region. Recent seasons have seen the Maroons consistently finish at the top of the district standings and produce multiple regional qualifiers for the state tournament. This new facility ensures that our trajectory remains upward, providing the elite training environment our athletes have earned through their success on the course.
Named after the legendary Maroons alum and two-time Masters Champion, the Ben Crenshaw Golf Academy is designed to mirror high-performance collegiate programs. By bringing top-tier technology and year-round training capabilities to our 650+ student-athletes, we are reinforcing our commitment to excellence in every arena. Our golfers now have a home that matches their championship ambitions and the storied 1881 legacy of Stephen F. Austin High School.
