Austin High is excited to welcome Coach Marissa Garcia as the new leader of the Maroons Cheer program for the 2026–2027 school year.

An Austin native and Austin ISD alumna, Coach Garcia brings eight years of competitive and sideline cheer experience to AHS. She also competed in dance, serving as a social officer on a team that earned multiple honors, including a National Championship. A Texas State University graduate with a degree in Biology, Garcia is entering her third year as an educator.

What stands out most is the philosophy she brings to Austin High: building a strong program where student-athletes can grow, succeed and create lasting memories. That fits naturally with an Austin High culture that believes relationships matter, extracurricular involvement helps students succeed, and every student should feel that they are part of something. As the school has long said, “Everybody is somebody at Austin High.”

Carrying Forward a Maroon Tradition

Coach Garcia takes over a cheer program at a special time in Austin High history. Founded in 1881, Austin High is the oldest continuously operating public high school in Texas, with generations of students carrying forward the traditions of Maroon pride and “Loyal Forever.”

That tradition will have both an old and a new home this year. The cheer team will continue performing at historic House Park, where generations of Maroons have gathered since the stadium’s dedication in 1937, while also getting opportunities to perform on Austin High’s new on-campus Maroons Field.

We’re excited to welcome Coach Garcia to Austin High and look forward to watching her and the 2026–2027 squad build the next chapter of Maroons Cheer.
