  • Winter: Basketball (Boys & Girls), Soccer (Boys & Girls), Swimming & Diving (Boys & Girls), Wrestling (Boys & Girls).

  • Year-Round: Archery, Cheer, Red Jackets (Dance), Lacrosse (Boys & Girls), Mountain Biking, Ultimate Frisbee.

Every athletic program at Austin High is led by a head coach and then typically involves one or more assistant coaches. Each coach is either a teacher at Austin High, or a few are AISD employees who work at other schools in the district. In addition, each Austin High athletic program is supporting by a separate booster club. If you have sport-specific questions regarding tryouts or equipment, please visit our Coaches Directory to find the contact info for your Head Coach.

At Austin High, club sports which includes lacrosse, mountain biking, power lifting, ultimate handle their own registration and physicals outside of the AISD RankOne portal. Contact those coaches directly for their specific on-boarding process. Also certain sports will start required training in the Summer, so if you are going to run cross country, play football or volleyball you need to get their schedule of team activities prior to Summer.

Requirements for Incoming Austin High Athletes

Before your athlete can step onto a field, track or court, the following items must be completed.

1. Get a Sports Physical

  • Every incoming athlete needs a medical exam cleared by a physician. It is a UIL requirement to ensure student safety.

  • It must be dated after May 1st to be valid for the upcoming school year.

  • Parents must fill out the ‘Medical History’ side of the UIL form before going to the doctor. The doctor must review your answers before they sign the physical.

  • Download the Official UIL Physical Form.

2. Submit RankOne Online Forms

  • RankOne is AISD’s digital portal for all athletic paperwork (insurance, emergency contacts, UIL waivers). (Tip: you will need your student’s ID, which is 6-digit Student ID number assigned by AISD. Incoming freshman should have it from middle school.)

  • You cannot participate in any team activity—including Summer Speed & Strenth Camp—until your RankOne status shows “Green.” (Tip: once your RankOne status is green, take a screen shot as proof for your Austin High coach)

  • RankOne forms are usually posted for upcoming school year on May 1st.

  • Complete your forms at AISD RankOne Portal.

3. Make Sure Your Student is Enrolled at Austin High

  • The Austin High Office of the Registrar is the place to go for enrollment information; whether you are a returning student, transfer, or new AISD student.

  • If you have questions about classes, then you can reach out to the school counselor assigned to your grade. The majority of Austin High student athletes will have a block schedule, which means a portion of their school schedule is blocked for their particular sport (this fills requirement for a PE credit).

  • Visit the Austin High Registrar’s Office for help.

4. Austin High Transfer Student Requirements

  • If your student athlete is transferring to Austin High, then you do have additional requirements. The best first steps are to make sure your student is registered at Austin High and then reach out to the coach of sport your student plans to participate in to let them know you are coming to the school.

  • If you are a transfer student, then you are required to fill out a PAPF form. This form is UIL requirement for all transfers to clarify that the transfer is for academic purposes and not for athletic purposes. PAPF forms will need to be signed by the school you are transferring from so they can verify the transfer is not for athletic purposes.

  • Important note: any student who transfers to Austin High isn’t eligible for varsity-level competition without district executive committee (DEC) approval and UIL parent residence waiver approval. This includes incoming freshman, who are zoned to different high school but transferring to Austin High. If your coach determines your athlete is ready for varsity-level competition, it is essential that you (as parents) work directly with your team’s head coach and the Austin High athletics administrators to begin the multi-step petition process as soon as possible. This process to get cleared for varsity competition as transfer can take weeks to fulfill and PAPF form above is part of that process.
