The Austin High tennis program continues to prove it belongs at the very top of Texas 6A athletics. After a grueling District tournament, the Maroons didn’t just compete—they conquered. In a field packed with perennial powerhouses like Westlake and Lake Travis, Austin High rose to the occasion, securing a District Championship and punching multiple tickets to the Regional tournament.
While the entire team showed incredible skill on the court, these athletes separated themselves from the pack to extend their season:
- Brown Holland and Hatcher Merritt are District Champions. They took 1st Place in Boys Doubles in a dominant performance. Their chemistry and aggressive play at the net proved too much for the district to handle, earning them the top seed heading into Regionals.
- Esha Vallabhaneni delivered an incredible performance in Girls Singles to take 2nd Place. As a freshman, Esha played with a level of poise and technical skill far beyond her years, navigating a difficult bracket to secure her Regional spot.
Winning in the ulterior competitive District 26-6A is never easy, but these Maroons showed great talent in taking down Westlake and Lake Travis’ best tennis players on their road to victory. We also want to recognize our Mixed Doubles team, who fought their way to a 4th Place finish. While they narrowly missed the Regional cut, their performance was a testament to the depth and grit of this year’s squad.
The momentum is officially with the Maroons heading to the UIL Regional Tournament. This crew has the talent to make a deep run. Austin High athletes set the standard at District and now can show the rest of the state what Austin High tennis is all about.
Loyal Forever.
