Austin High’s successful track & field program has two athletes making the short trip across town to Mike A. Myers Stadium to run in the state meet. Following two outstanding performances in the Regional Finals, Austin High is proud that Rory Yonnone and Melanie Kay Price have punched their tickets to the 2026 UIL State Track & Field Championships.
Our two qualifiers emerged from a gauntlet of the state’s fastest competition, securing their spots on the biggest stage in Texas high school athletics:
- Rory Yonnone: Following an incredible performance in the 800m, Rory is headed to the state meet. This achievement caps off a stellar high school career as he prepares to run at the next level for Dartmouth College.
- Melanie Kay Price: Dominating her events at the regional level, Melanie has earned her place among the elite in Texas. Her journey continues at the state meet before she takes her talents to run D1 for the University of Colorado.
While the spotlight shines on our state qualifiers, this achievement is a testament to the depth of our entire program. The Maroons sent four powerhouse athletes to the Regional Finals this year, including junior William Rhoden (100m) and freshman Luisa Lambert (100m) each proving that Maroon track and field belongs in the conversation with the best in Texas. Reaching the Regional Finals is a milestone in itself. Having four runners compete at that level speaks to the elite training and culture being built on our brand new on campus track. These athletes have put in the miles, the early mornings, and the weight room sessions required to compete at a 6A championship level.
We invite the entire Austin High community to head down to the University of Texas track to back Rory and Melanie as they chase state titles in our own backyard.
