This guide outlines the mandatory steps for all students planning to participate in sports at Austin High School. Compliance with these protocols is necessary to ensure eligibility for the upcoming academic year.
Mandatory Annual Paperwork
Every year on May 1st, the athletic department resets all records and digital portals. To remain eligible, every student-athlete must complete a fresh set of documentation.
- Parents must access the athletic portal and complete all electronic participation forms including the Rank One. Paperwork from the previous school year does not carry over and is archived.
- Every student requires a physical examination signed by a physician. To be valid for the entire upcoming school year, the exam must be conducted on or after April 15th of the current calendar year.
- All physicals must be uploaded directly to the portal. It is recommended to keep a digital copy of the physical for your personal records.
Incoming Freshman Procedures
Students entering the 9th grade from middle school are eligible for sub-varsity athletics immediately upon official enrollment at Austin High.
- An offering to all Austin High students that is useful to new students is Maroons Summer Speed & Strength Camp held on the Austin High campus. This provides the opportunity to meet coaching staffs and begin conditioning prior to next season.
- Check Mandatory tryouts and practices for fall sports typically begin the first week of August. Specific dates, times, and locations are maintained on the official team pages.
- Campus Facilities: All Junior Varsity and Freshman home games for football and soccer are hosted on-site at the on-campus stadium.
Transfer Student Procedures
A transfer student is defined as any student who has previously participated in high school athletics (public or private) and is now enrolling at Austin High for the first time.
- To be eligible for Varsity competition at Austin High in your first year, transfers must complete a Previous Athletic Participation Form (PAPF) required by UIL. This process is legally initiated by the Austin High Athletic Department once the student is officially enrolled and attending classes.
- Per UIL regulations, all transfer students are subject to a mandatory 15-calendar-day waiting period from their first day of attendance before they are eligible to represent the school in a varsity contest.
- The District Executive Committee (DEC), which is led by AISD Athletic Director, reviews all transfer applications. They must approve any first-year transfers who want to participate at Varsity level. If they do not, then UIL will review the transfer and rule on it.
